The Ngurdoto Village Day Walks
Forest and village walk to the Supernatural Well
and Elephant Swamps.

Day trips
Day 1
Drive from Arusha to Ngurdoto Village, 30 kms.
The village is situated on  the boundary of Arusha
National Park. Walk around the swamps to view the
different species of birds and reptiles, and lunch at
the swamps. Then trek through the natural forest,
following elephant trails to view the black and white
Colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, and butter flies. Next, visit the Supernatural Well, which brings dead water underground  from Momella Lakes,  The Supernatural Well is set in the dense rain forest and abounds with dragonflies.  It’s reputed to be the home of benevolent spirits!  Late evening drive back to Arusha  or stay overnight at Ngurdoto village camp site.

Day 2.
Sakila (holy) Hill and Ngurdoto Crater Escarpment.

Day 3
Drive from Arusha via Ngurdoto Village to Sakila Hill.  Climb to the summit at 1500 meters, (3/4 hour easy walk).  Enjoy lunch with spectacular views of Mt. Meru, Mt. Kilimanjaro, and Maasai plains from the summit.  Descent into the valley and walk beside densely forested mountain streams to the edge of the Crater.  Finally, visit a Meru village to experience their daily life and culture. Return back to Arusha or stay overnight at Ngurdoto Village camp site.

Day 4.
After breakfast, transfer to Mkuru Camel Camp by car. Visit the Maasai Bush Land, before lunch. Then trek to view different species of birds through the bush land and experience the Maasai tradition Bomas, dinner and overnight  at Bush camp or return to Arusha.

Day 5.
After breakfast, camel walk and ride to the breath-taking Gorge; then trek through the Maasai bush land. Lunch at the gorge, viewing small bucks and many African birds. After lunch ride back to the camp.  Drive back to Arusha or Moshi.

Day 6
Snake Farm and Ngurdoto Forest Reserve.
This trip starts in Arusha or Moshi and proceeds to the Snake Farm which breeds and preserves numerous reptiles including Black and Greed Mambas, Puff Adders, Albino Snakes, Crocodiles, and Monitor Lizards.  After lunch, we walk around the boundary of Arusha National Park, through Meru villages, and Mount Meru foothills, watching for  Giraffe and Zebras



.






Other Suggestions for Day Trips:

  • A full day bird watching around Ngurrdoto with visits to habitats known only to us.

  • A full day Arusha National Park Game Drive.

  • One day camel rides through Maasai bush land (Savannah) with a visit to Maasai villages.

  • A visit to Momella and Shishton Lakes in Leguruki Village to view large flocks of flamingoes.
